When Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced that he was making a movie on the life of the great queen "Rani Padmavati", everyone was elated. Given his sense of taking creative freedom, we all knew there was trouble and roadblocks even with this movie, just like they were for Bajirao Mastani.

While showing Kashibai and Mastani dance together for the sole purpose of maximizing the attraction of the movie goers created a ruckus amongst the Marathas across Maharashtra, the movie eventually got released and worked pretty well. Mind you, the songs were kept intact and the ones who felt the image was damaged kept feeling so and may be still feel the same about it. The matter of fact is that SLB is known to fictionalize the base plot a bit to suit the movie goers liking, he had done the same in the epic "Devdas" where Paro and Chandramukhi were shown dancing together while in the original book by Saratchandra Chattopadhyay from which the movie was adapted didn't have Paro and Chandramukhi ever come face to face.

"Ghoomar" made way for new problems
The latest to enter the league of SLB's problem invoking movies list is none other than "Padmavati". The Rajput caste members across India have objected to the movie as they believe that the facts are twisted and that Rani Padmini is shown in a bad light. Their beliefs came true when the song "Ghoomar" came out as Deepika was shown dancing with her mid rif showing and also her face was seen in the whole song, according to the cast pandits it's not how Rani Padmini dressed up and its insulting to the community as their women are always covered head to toe.
This doubt arose first with the news of Ranveer Singh joining the cast and the tabloids carried the headings which indicated that they both had scenes together. The Rajputs got enraged as Ranveer Singh's essaying the character of Khilji who was the reason she along with thousands of other women in Mewar took Johar i.e jumped into live fire to save their dignity.

The government, the members of Karni and Bharni Sena, the film maker and the audience all have a different point of view and gain from the movie. The audience wants to watch an historic epic with great production values and greater performances and escape their own reality, film makers always want their movies to break all box office records and become a classic, the Karni & Bharni Sena in this case want to protect their culture and portrayal of their queen who is looked upon even today. Lastly the government earns more taxes if the film does more business and vice versa so they would not stop a release unless it harms public harmony or hurts religious sentiments.
The problem is that everyone is trying to fulfill their own agenda and not open to communication. While the safeguards of Rajput traditions might be right in their attempt to safeguard the portrayal of their historic figure on the big screen, their way of doing it cannot be termed as the right way. Announcing monetary awards to anyone who beheads the actress Deepika Padukone and the director or harms them in any way is physical violence and incite people to be violent and is definitely not justified. The film maker on the other hand is justified in not showing his film to anyone else for approval as it is already approved by CBFC, because really if one has to take other people's approval post CBFC for the release then what's the use of CBFC certification?
Considering the above facts, chances of "Padmavati" getting a peaceful release seems bleak. For now the release is pushed from 1st December 2017 to an unknown date.
